Anything for an Indoor Roping Arena in Colorado

Anything for an Indoor Roping Arena in Colorado

Perhaps I’m dreaming of being a cowboy or a wrangler. But when it’s cold, I’d give anything to practice up in an indoor roping arena in Colorado. Yes, I’d show ‘em good. I could be out there practicing before winter’s dawn and way past the late afternoon dusk.

I will learn to rope. Me and my Chestnut – we’ll catch those little lambs in a wink. And we’ll take on the calves next. That’s how I’ll become a champion.  Molly Powell tells us on her DVD, “The Secret to My Success,” how dedicated she is and how hard she prepares for rodeo.  I’m gonna do that too.

Indoor Roping ArenaThe formidable little Colorado roping arena in my backyard will produce big results. Maybe I’ll get a Heel O-Matic or Hot Heels machine, too.  My friend Clyde can pull it around with his four wheeler.  Yep.  We will start with a walk and move on to the trot and the lope.  I’ll get one of those stiff lightweight yellow ropes and practice whirling the perfect lasso. Time and again we will circle around my new indoor roping arena in Colorado’s wide-open foothills.

I’ll set myself to mastering the out of time heel shot with the green rope. I can see it now.  Even if I only have horns mounted on a bale of hay, I will swing the rope around my head a few times, just enough to smoothly land the tip of the loop over the top of the horns.  Let’s see. It’s kind of like a dance move. Land the rope on the horns and reach out with the index finger and thumb for the slack. Move the arm past the body to pull the slack and tighten the rope.

Just like Prof. Hill directed his band ahead of time, I am dreaming of the rodeo championships. Why not set high goals? I can see it now: the PRCA All Around Cowboy and making it to the World Series Finale.  Why not? Maybe Dru Stew will help improve my style. Clyde and I can start with our own competitions.

Then will come the time to put dally wraps on my saddle, mount my Chestnut, and let the steer out of the box.  Did I practice enough?  I can hardly wait for the arena to be up.
