How to Harmonize a Horse Barn and House on the Front Range

Here on the Front Range, it takes a barn to protect your horses. Not just any horse barn but a custom designed facility that harmonizes with your beautiful house in Central Colorado. Of course, you want the barn to be built in an aesthetically pleasing way. After all, this is not farm. It is your gorgeous Colorado estate.Horse Barn

Recent Franktown Equestrian Project

Here is a recent example of an equestrian project south of Denver in the Franktown foothills. The attractive wood and stone exterior perfectly harmonizes with the house. These horse stalls are custom-made for large draft horses. And you’ve got to outsmart the horses! This is a very nice, modern wood barn that utilizes metals to deter the horses from gnawing on the wood.

“One thing you may notice in the photos is the metal that lines the inside of the wood that a horse would be able to munch on. We cover these areas with powder coated metal to deter the barn inhabitants from chewing to keep the barn in good order,” notes Taylor Randa, Sapphire Construction’s office manager.

How Horses Can be Harmonized with your Home

It is one thing to put a horse barn out in the back 40. It is another thing to keep the horses and the barn close to the main house. The best harmony comes from great planning. Architects need to consider many variables such as topography, type of soil, prevailing winds, property lines, subdivision and county regulations, etc. No one wants bad odors wafting onto the deck during a BBQ!

Planning also ties in the style of the home for the style of the barn. In addition to the harmonizing wood elements, note the cupolas on the Franktown property.horses
