If I Had a Horse, I’d Build a Handy Custom Pole Barn
A pole barn would make me happier than a horse. And, yes, I do love horses. As with Mike Oldfield, I’d often rather be on horseback. Pole barns, though, serve far beyond their purposes as horse stables. I could expand the roof and make space for my other hobbies.
My Pole Barn Plans
There you have it. My ideas. Now I need to see what it will cost me to build a pole barn where I live twixt Denver and Colorado Springs. I’ll start with a simple idea and then sit down with Sapphire Construction for their input. For starters, I found a garage/hobby building in the library on the Lester Buildings website.
Project #605944 for Hobbies and Livestock in a Residential Area. This Wisconsin building would do me just fine. I like the colors (Pewter Gray and Snow White). Components I like include the Eclipse Roof at 4/12 pitch with classy cupolas. I’d ditto the AJ walk doors, Clopay overhead doors, and Hayfield gridded vinyl windows.
I’ll go a little smaller than the 46” x 50’ x 16’ size that this owner selected. I do like the idea of including 2-3 stables, storage, and an auto shop. We’ll see how it pencils in and if I can stay in my budget.
Why own a house in the countryside without enough indoor space to enjoy my past times? Some like the city, but I’d rather be on horseback. That’s what I say, too.
On Horseback in Douglas County
So, I do need a pole barn with a little hobby shop where I can leave my tools out while working on my old Mustang. I’d just roll open the big overhead. With Oldfield, I’d be singing about the smell of a westerly breeze. I too like thunder, rain, open fires, and roaring flames.
That makes me think of adding to my pole barn. I need an outdoor firepit or maybe a wood burning stove. I do like the crackle and the kids like smores. Hey and away we go. Through the grass, across the Douglas County snow. It’s good to be on horseback.
Between Denver and Colorado Springs, equestrian lifestyles add interest. Horses used to be wild. Since settling of the West, horses pull buggies, carry cowpokes around ranches, pack hunters to the outback. Horses star in everyday practices and special exhibitions. Along the Front Range, we take part in rodeos, dressage, jumping, barrel racing. Me? I want to ride my beastie to the river for fishing. I would like those fine stables by Lester Buildings installed in my pole barn by springtime.
