Lester Buildings Stand Up Against Tornadoes

Recently we’ve experienced a devastating tornado season in the middle of the USA. This year they’ve covered a broad area of the Midwest and the High Plains. Thankfully, with Lester Buildings, our buildings stand strong against extreme wind and snow loads.

A case in point. In February 2024, the Lester building performed beautifully. Housing the Farm Science Center, it could remain open. Unfortunately, the tornado severely impacted other nearby buildings.

The Extra Caution Pays Off

Sapphire Construction, Inc. and Lester Buildings specifically engineer buildings according to the wind and snow loads of the building sites. Because we design entire building systems, our engineered pole barns perform with greater stability. From the roof trusses and purlins down to the foundation, the total engineering provides maximum durability.

Lester buildings website remarked about the situation. “Lester’s display building 1) is virtually untouched from the tornado while its neighboring competitor building 2) has endured extensive damage.” [See photo referencing 1 and 2.] Lester buildings

Important Aspects of Pole Buildings

Let’s review important aspects of pole buildings. Customers enjoy selecting the colors and style. But you will agree that, for greater structural integrity it is more important for our architects and designers to focus on the bones. For starters:

  1.  We manufacture our posts to last for the long run. Our team treats the wood before laminating it. The fused column outperforms simple wood. Furthermore, concrete encases the posts to protect them from ground moisture.
  2. We manufacture steel panels coated with excellent paint systems to protect the investment.
  3. Lester Buildings has added several upgrades to each building. For example, notice the extra support under the roof overhangs and reinforcement near doors period.

Central Colorado Tornado Records Lester buildings

Central Colorado missed most of the recent tornado flurry. However, over the past 75 years, 2,386 tornadoes spiraled into Colorado, including along the front range of the Rocky Mountains. A glance at Coloradoan.com illustrates the severity and locations of twisters starting in 1950. Property and crop damage totaled almost $300 million. So, the ability to stand up to tornado weather built into the Lester Buildings product is well worth its cost.
