Modern Additions to Historic Colorado Ranch Buildings

Historic Colorado ranch buildings often add a timeless flavor to properties.  And we all like tying into the lineage of Colorado ranching in the last century.  It is true that historic barns and outbuildings are useful for some purposes. In Central Colorado, however, their limitations can be annoying.
The fun begins the moment a rancher decide it’s time to add a state-of-the-art addition to an older building.  Enter a team of designers, engineers, architects and builders to help you realize your dreams of balancing the historic significance of a building with modern utilitarian functions.

Matching the Style of Historic Buildings

Colorado Ranch BuildingsLet’s say the old ranch building is simply obsolete.  The current ranchers are not able to use it for much more than storing hay.  Even a smaller ranch property can be enhanced, perhaps adding stables for a small boarding facility or facilities to accommodate llamas or sheep.  Utilizing the pole barn design, the addition can be as long as necessary to accommodate the size and scope of the operation.

On a larger ranch, budget allowing, the pole barn could be placed in a separate location.  In these cases, the brand new Colorado ranch buildings would be tailored to accommodate all current and planned future ranching functions.  And the exterior design can include features to parallel the architecture or design of the historic buildings on the ranch.

Paying Tribute to Historic Buildings

Then there is the possibility of tearing down the old building, while saving the materials to reuse in the new post-frame edition.  Old barn wood with a story makes a comeback in the modern world.  It is a conversation piece and another “green”, recycled element.  The wood can be reused as paneling or wainscoting, picture frames, flooring in some places, etc.

Going Beyond the Possibilities of Yesteryear

Whether a stud farm, horse ranch, cattle or dairy operation, or a creative combination, the new addition of the ranch building is sure to put a feather in your cap.  This is not your Grandpa’s building.  It will be well-ventilated, energy efficient, and, if you choose, heated and cooled.  Custom designed to insure the best work flow and good air means less work and many more options to really enjoy the ranch.

Strength-tested materials handle all of Colorado’s winter challenge, meaning lots of wind and snow.  Windows and doors are top quality, including the Power Pivot Hydraulic Door with a tall clearance for machinery.   Livestock buildings can be designed to manage the flexibility needed in commercial operations for cattle and hogs.  In addition, many activities can be put under one roof.  This is the time to add what you need:  storage, offices or kitchen, and other special needs.

Then blend the new and old by properly placing the sections and incorporating ingenious detailing.
