Douglas County horses sustain the Colorado Western culture for us. Few of us are cowpokes, for many of us horses represent freedom and discipline. With neighbors in the region also ready to ride off into the sunset, we can find all kinds of great equestrian trails and events.

If you live here and enjoy horses, we’re sure you’re more than eager to saddle up for the upcoming 2021 Douglas County Fair & Rodeo. Open riding at the Fairgrounds started this week. It’s a good time to acclimate younger horses as they venture from private horse barns to a more social setting at the Fair. Be sure to register right away.Horses

Practice Events

If you plan to register this year or next, you’ll discover many ways to practice. For example, you’ll the Douglas County Trail Riders and a wide range of club activities and educational events. Begin with a trail ride or two and move towards clinics and horse shows. Look up equestrian events in Douglas County. Eventually, you could conquer cowboy challenge courses. Our equestrian community finds all kinds of ways to interact, including parades, community service activities, and social events.

Fair Events for Douglas County Horses

To check out some of the beautiful horses in Douglas County, friends and family can drop by the Douglas County Fair & Rodeo. It features equestrian events for all ages and inclinations. You’ll get to take in many events, from stick-horse to champion rodeo. The Fair coordinates professional rodeos, bull riding, muttin’ bustin’, and the 4-H and FFA exhibits. Meet others who work with horses.

And there are other ways to get riding if you are new to horses. For a variety of activities and educational events, contact the Douglas County Trail Riders. They host trail rides, horse shows, cowboy challenge courses, clinics, parades, and much more.

Douglas County Fairgrounds

The purpose or mission of the Douglas County Fairgrounds is to “provide unique and functional at facilities to accommodate a diversity of activities including civic, recreational, entertainment, business, traditional youth activities and the annual County Fair, for the community with an appreciation for the urbanization and the rural agricultural history of Douglas County, Colorado.” Facilities are located at 500 Fairgrounds Drive, Castle Rock, CO 80104.

Horse Barns and Stables

Speaking of horse barns, Sapphire Construction builds barns big and small. These early horse trainers would have really appreciated our horse barns! How far the design has come in the past 200 years. To keep horses, your property needs to be at least 2.3 acres. Pick up 10 or 20 acres and chances are you’ll be able to saddle up the family. Be sure to check the Douglas County zoning guidelines.
