Put New Metal Buildings in Advantageous Sites
When it comes to adding new metal buildings, pay attention to the building site. Find the most advantageous place for your needs. Many variables must be considered during the planning phase. To blend into the topography, vegetation, trees, and existing structures, our architects and designers at Sapphire Construction will suggest your best options. Watch how we consider details that encourage energy efficiency, function, and aesthetics.
Weather in Colorado Effects Building Sites
In Colorado, weather patterns create significant challenges. Where we build south of Denver, factors such as wind, rain and snow loads must be addressed for each specific building site. They are different. Douglas County sits in the rolling foothills of the Rocky Mountains. Elbert County extends from Douglas County into the high plains. But there are variances with any property as well.
Usually our clients own an existing property. We visit to assess the lay of the land. If they still need a suitable property, Sapphire Construction’s crew will help find parcels to accommodate the desired metal building kit. Mother Nature will have her say.
Variables can be scientifically assessed in detail, things like the presence of woods and tall trees, snow melt and rain drainage direction, prevailing winds, etc. Think about it. How much sunshine and shade can we provide for the animals? How can we best facilitate interior natural lighting and heating? If the garage door is open, will the wind often interfere with the interior? Of course, here in Colorado, how will the snow pile up and can we reduce its interference? These equations are important when placing the direction of the building. They also effect elements such as the stables and porches, windows and garage doors.
Natural Topography
The natural environment can be ignored or used to our advantage. The lay of the land is in play. Would it be helpful to back a metal garage into the hillside to block the wind? Should a large hobby building be located near the main house? Is it better to place an animal shelter in the lower elevations? These are the types of determinations our clients and our architects must zero-in on during the design process.
Forest and Vegetation
To create a classy looking pole barn, existing stands of trees might also affect the building site. Those tall pine and aspen trees create a beautiful backdrop for a large pole building. But trees also block the sun. So, what is more important? In addition, trees may naturally grow near water sources such as irrigation ditches, creeks, and streams. Where is the water flow?
During the design process, the building design, including suggested color schemes and use of material, can be mocked up with electronic software. Our clients can see the effects of changing the colors to fit the landscape and vegetation in the area. Some go with bright colors and white trim, muted colors, or the popular Western Craftsman with wainscoting. Each building gains its own personality as a unique custom pole building.
Energy Efficiency
Sapphire Construction confidently suggests numerous elements to help reduce energy use. Ventilation, insulation, windows, door placement, and many other factors complement the direction of the building as it is placed on the construction site. These systems will be decided before the building kit is ordered. All move towards the greatest advantage.
