Site Preparation: How to Start Off on the Right Foot
The exceptional pole barn starts with the best site preparation — positioning and design as well. The place where the pole barn will set is very important. As you look around for good build sites and properties for your Colorado pole barn, be sure to find out how important variables will affect the building.
This will help you avoid common pitfalls. You certainly do not want to be wasting time and money to do avoidable problems. So, if you are in Douglas County or Elbert County, go to the experts at Sapphire Construction.
Common Pitfalls to Site Preparation
Ignoring the direction, access, soil type, drainage, power lines, and prevailing winds, trees, and slope are some of the common pitfalls. First time builders may learn the hard way. Sapphire Construction’s builders will carefully examine the location. We will look for factors that facilitate the construction and help with the longevity of the pole building.
- Drainage. We look for a large, flat area preferably at the crown of the property. The costs may increase if the ground is not level.
- Enough Space: The building pad needs to be free and clear of obstacles. Optimally, count on 10 feet or more of level ground around the building’s perimeter to allow for equipment to get in and out of the building site. Smaller open areas may slow down the project and cost more in the long run.
- Site Access: The construction crew will need access, preferably on at least a class 5 gravel driveway to allow builders in with heavy machinery. The driveway also needs to be wide enough. If not, smaller trucks could possibly be used – at greater costs. If this is happening during the winter months, plan to ensure snow removal.
- Safety: The construction crew will need to learn about underground power lines before the project begins. In addition, rocks, tree roots, and other obstructions should be removed ahead of time.
